The run has now included extensive (though mercifully sticking mainly with the slow paced but high quality Gibbons/Simpson reboot) runs of the “Friday” version of “Rogue Trooper”, “Mean Arena” never a classic, “Blackhawk” and seemingly endless “Sinister Dexter” volumes add padding. The series is made up of 80 volumes (later increased to 111) featuring some of the biggest stars of 2000 AD's 40 year history. Like the Judge Dredd : Mega Collection before it, the Ultimate Collection has gone for quantity rather than quality.

The series is the second collaboration between Hachette Partworks and 2000 AD publisher Rebellion Developments, following the success of Judge Dredd: The Mega Collection. AD: The Ultimate Collection takes you to the multiple future-shocked worlds of the Galaxy's Greatest . Subscribers received a reprinted copy of this issue in April 2019, with the spine image correctly printed to ensure that it correctly aligned with the rest of the spine image.this epic 2000 AD retrospective exclusively designed for this collection by top 2000 AD artist Boo Cook. More mystifying choices include the reboot misfires of “Strontium Dogs” and “Samantha Slade : Robohunter”.

From Celtic warrior Sláine to swashbuckling Russian rogue Nikolai Dante, no fan will want to be without this greatest hits package that delivers four decades worth of thrill power! That’s not to say there hasn’t been some memorable content in the Prog’ over the last ten years, and “The Out”, “Brink” (which does feature in the collection) are examples of latter day classics that have appeared and more worthy of inclusion than the final, tired, but spectacular looking “ABC Warriors” strips, reprints of the “Dredd” continuation strips of the 2012 movie, scheduled for issue 144 and “Mean Team” scheduled for issue 142.

Each hardback book contains a bonus content section featuring cover galleries, concept sketches, interviews and more. Collect the definitive stories from the Galaxy’s Greatest Comic in one exclusive hardback graphic novel collection with 2000 AD: The Ultimate Collection! Subscribe today and you’ll receive a FREE issue plus 5 FREE gifts including an exclusive sketch book from the archives of 2000 AD! Notwithstanding personal taste, the initial run was of high quality, but since then and with notable exceptions admittedly, quality has slipped a bit. TIR NAN OG, THE LAND OF THE YOUNG, SUFFERS UNDER THE DOMINION OF THE Drune Lords, who poison the earth with their magic.extra per issue, receive six exclusive hand-painted 2000 AD never-before-seen figurines: NEMESIS THE WARLOCK, JUDGE DEATH, HALO JONES, NIKOLAI DANTE, JUDGE DREDD, and ROGUE TROOPER! Reprints are a significant part of Rebellion’s business model, so their enthusiasm in extending this series is understandable.

Elephants in the room include “Summer Magic / Journal of Luke Kirby”, “Zenith” (likely due to rights disputes), and notable creator owned (at least originally) work such as “Button Man” and “Scarlet Traces”. The Ultimate Collection forms a stunning library brings you the best stories from forty years of Britain’s biggest comic, from Judge Dredd to Rogue Trooper, from The Ballad of Halo Jones to Strontium Dog and a galaxy of Thrills in between! It was never meant to be a means for casual readers to get into the Prog’; the excellent and recently released “ Best of 2000 AD” is better at serving the unenlightened, but as far as the Ultimate Collection is concerned, at most it’s name matches two of the dictionary definitions. However, dig a little deeper and examine the content you begin to wonder what definition of “Ultimate” 2000 AD is relying on.The spine incorrectly showed '79' instead of '63', although the number shown correctly inside as '63' (79 was the volume in the previous issue) - the spine picture is also incorrectly showing that of volume 79.
