Although the book is not trying to convince anybody, families who are eager to let their child figure thing out on their own will be happy with this title. This board book would be a great baby shower gift, or one to counter some of the signaling in the world for slightly older readers, to empower youngsters to follow their hearts and not societal pressures. Under the oppressive caste system and the turmoil caused by blackouts, the lower deck communities become spaces for sexual and gendered violence. This is true in some cases but all kids are different, and all of them deserve to see themselves represented in their favorite books. The Tarlanders are the residents of P, Q, R, S, and T decks, and as Aster describes them, “as close to a nation as anything on Matilda” (Solomon 11).

However, I could see actually reading this book to a baby way sooner than some of the themed board books out there like "Astrophysics for Babies. Dependent upon the labor of the Tarlanders, this decline was of grave concern to the authorities of the Matilda, referred to as the Guards and the Sovereign. Thus, An Unkindness of Ghosts does not create an idyllic future of freedom and gender and sexual liberation. With an Afrofuturist structure, Solomon pushes for a new vision of Black people’s subjectivity, and agency develops within and against systems that seek to deny them such.Featuring a vibrant rainbow design, and our super-sized Q logo, you won't find a more stylish way to make a statement. A girl can play with a truck, a boy can play with a doll, it doesn’t really matter in our world as long as your parent loves you and you are cherished!

Happy pride to all my fellow queers out there and happy pride to those who don’t know if you’re queer yet. As the pages turn, the child confidently refuses to choose when asked to decide between blue and pink, bow ties and bows, and being a “little princess” or a “little heartbreaker. I am seeing alot of hate comments on this book saying "boys want to grow up to be big strong men, why are we just confusing kids with this nonsense? Two stars for the idea alone, just the carefree to the point of not explaining or defining anything attitude doesn't work. Divided by Solomon’s imagined caste system, upperdeckers live a life of comfort, while the lowerdeckers ensure the ship’s day-to-day running. A bright, fun board book that celebrates all expressions of gender while dismantling gender norms and critiquing the tradition of gender reveal parties.
