Whether he’s flailing across a racetrack covered in imaginary flames, rubbing his junx on his step-brother’s drums, or locking himself in battle with a rival news crew, the SNL alum makes me laugh every time he looks at the screen or injects a character with raging egomaniacism.

Sidestepping the standard Dolby Digital pitfall that’s ensnared so many Warner releases of late, ‘Elf’ arrives on Blu-ray with a faithful, fairly impressive Dolby TrueHD 5. A wide dynamic scale gives John Debney's music score and all the soundtrack tunes plenty of room to breathe, distortion is absent, and all the dialogue is well prioritized and easy to comprehend. His deadpan facial expressions and droll line deliveries raise the laugh quotient exponentially and set the madcap tone of Elf, which wouldn't be nearly as memorable without his participation. Seeing how frustrated Buddy was getting, Papa Elf takes Buddy on as his apprentice, and their first project together will be to make Santa's sled fly. but for an actor who’s been criticized for playing the same character in every film, Ferrell continues to surprise me again and again.By now, almost everyone knows the charming story of an orphaned baby who crawls into Santa's toy bag one Christmas Eve and gets whisked to the North Pole, where he's raised by elves and grows up believing he's one, too. Favreau's film is family entertainment at its finest, featuring a performance by Ferrell that is at once innocent, tender, and laugh-out-loud funny. Deleted/Alternate Scenes (SD, 12 minutes) -- Eight cuts and extensions don’t amount to much material, but it’s an amusing collection that will give fans a few additional laughs. Married to Emily (Mary Steenburgen), he also has a younger son named Michael (Daniel Tay), who he has pretty much neglected for his career. My polar express post seemed to be pretty popular, and the blu ray review sites still have NO reviews for these Christmas movies, so I guess someone has to do it lol.

Special Features: Commentaries by Will Ferrell and Director Jon Favreau, deleted/alternate scenes, behind the scenes: Tag Along with Will Ferrell; Film School for Kids; How they made the North Pole; Lights, Camera, Puffin! Updated daily and in real-time, we track all high-def disc news and release dates, and review the latest disc titles. Thus begins Buddy's quest to connect with his father, win the affections of a special girl, bring a family back together, and save the spirit of Christmas.Dialog is clean, clear, and always discernable over the sound effects and music, so no prioritization issues here. Elf has little to NO grain, and that makes me wonder if any digital noise reduction was used in this. There are a few nifty panning effects that traverse around the room smoothly and with very convincing directionality. While newcomers should probably test the waters before diving in, I can’t help but recommend ‘Elf’ this Christmas season.
