In this version, Pelias (Douglas Wilmer) learns from a seer that he is destined to overthrow King Aristo of Thessaly, but he will lose his reign to one of Aristo's offspring.

I wish they'd had the nerve to do as Harryhausen wanted and stage the skeleton fight at night; that would have really been something! Jackson has always been a terrific commentator and his enthusiasm and passion for the films of Ray Harryhausen, coupled with that of Cook's, make for absolutely compulsive listening. Also included are trailers that were missing from the indigenous releases of 7th VOYAGE (a nice 3-minute one, narrated by Katherine Grant! With the amount of grain still intact DNR doesn't seem to be an issue, and there may be some edge enhancement but it's most likely just due to the application of the effects.Blu-ray ALL The Wonderful Worlds of Ray Harryhausen, Volume 2: 1961-1964 United Kingdom- Powerhouse Films - No cuts (103:54). All this shows that some thought has gone into putting this mix together, that effects haven't just been lashed around the channels for the sake of it.

Several day-for-night scenes have seen various interpretations over the years and in their respective releases, but one sequence, in particular, serves to highlight this quality best of all, and is renowned for not having had the right colour on DVD before. Occasionally, we get some mood-setting wind whistling around the back of the environment - when Jason meets old Argos and we first get to see the ship, the Argo, and, more acutely, when Hercules and Hylas stand in the eerie valley of the Titans - and the sound of a crowd can stretch around the back quite reasonably - the good-natured celebration of the earlier scene when Hylas outwits Hercules, say. Supplements: Two commentaries with Ray Harryhausen and Tony Dalton, and Peter Jackson and Randall William Cook. Plus, we get a fine set of Original Storyboards for the Skeleton Sequence to see how well the film matches up to what Ray Harryhausen had in mind.Dust, dirt (black and white specks) and film scratches on the print have been painstakingly removed as well. The surging surf of the Isle Of Bronze is also brought more vividly to life with some crashing resonance travelling front to back.

Given the vintage of the film, and the nature of the processes involved in its production, this is a terrific transfer from Sony and Columbia. It's an amazingly entertaining track that details both the production and its impact on both cult audiences and filmmakers, including Peter Jackson. The documentary includes several interviews, a look at some of his surviving models, rare animation segments, and much more. Harryhausen, himself, is doing extremely well and, despite his advancing years, has a fine, fine memory and a great clarity.

If you are fan of Jason, and of the entire concept that the master stop-motion animator created, then this track is like nectar. DTS-HD Master Audio, English Mono with English subtitles and English captions for the hearing impaired. And if you don't want a revamped soundtrack, then you will be pleased to know that the original mono track is included too, and this sounds very good indeed. Jason and his crew must overcome incredible obstacles including a 100-foot bronze giant, the venomous Hydraa huge creature with the heads of seven snakes, and a battle with an army of skeletons.
